Shortlinks

Last updated: October 31, 2025

Shortlinks are shortened versions of websites that you can use in text messages to save characters. Switchboard's shortlinks provide data you can use to understand your program and target future broadcasts or blasts.

Create Personalized Shortlinks

  1. Navigate to the Shortlinks page

  2. Click add shortlinks.

  3. A new window will pop up.

    1. Add a "slug" - this is what goes after your domain. You cannot have a space in the slug but you can use an underscore.

    2. Under Destination URL: Copy and paste the full url you want your supporters to reach when they click the shortlink.

Access a Shortlink’s QR Code

Each shortlink comes with a free and automatically created QR code. These QR codes are high quality and transparent. You can use these on your mail pieces, yard signs, sign in sheets, reshift sheets, and more!

To access your QR Code, click on the box in the QR column for the corresponding shortlink. You have the option to invert the color of the QR code. When you are ready to download your QR code, click download.

Enable + Disable Shortlinks

If you disable your shortlink, it will redirect to the website you gave Switchboard when you set up your account (likely your campaign website, social media page, or donate page).

You may want to disable links if they redirect to a page that is no longer relevant, like an event invite that has already occurred. You can also update the destination URL to a new site.

Shortlinks can be enabled and disabled as needed.

Editing Shortlinks

If you want to edit your shortlink or change the destination that the shortlink redirects to, navigate to the Shortlinks page.

Click on the pencil icon next to the slug or destination URL you’d like to change.

If you edit the slug of a shortlink after sending out the original version, the original version will no longer work. For example: if you used barbie4prez.us/gotv then changed it to barbie4prez.us/get-out-the-vote, barbie4prez.us/gotv will no longer work properly.

How To Bring Your Own Shortlink Domain To Switchboard

If you have a domain that is not being used for hosting your website or another purpose and want to use that with Switchboard, please email us at support@oneswitchboard.com so we can work with you to set this up.

Using A Shortlink Domain Across Different Organizations

Shortlink domains can be used across multiple Switchboard organizations but we advise against doing so because you will need to make sure that you are using unique slugs across each organization.

For example if you use barbie4prez.us/donate in one account you won't be able to use that slug again in the secondary account.

Track Shortlink Visits

One of the perks of having a shortlink with Switchboard is your ability to monitor the amount of traffic your shortlink gets. You can see this data on your Shortlink dashboard.

You will be able to see the number of mobile and desktop visits per link in the corresponding columns in your dashboard:

Note: QR code scans will show up as mobile visits.
