🔁 Sticky Sender Now Off by Default

On June 18th, we turned off sticky sender across all Switchboard organizations by default. Here's what that means:

  • Sticky Sender OFF (new default) — recipients receive each broadcast from a random number in your 10DLC pool, keeping sending numbers fresher and reducing the risk of filtering. This does not affect Toll-Free or Short Code sending.

  • Sticky Sender ON — recipients always receive broadcast messages from the same number, keeping all broadcasts in one thread. This may be preferred by voter contact organizations who want a consistent thread experience for supporters.

Why the change? Our investigations have found that device-level filtering can occur over time when a recipient receives many messages from the same 10DLC number and doesn't engage (click or reply). Turning sticky sender off helps spread messages across more numbers over time.

📱 iOS 27: Our Initial Assessment

Apple announced iOS 27 in early June, and we've been running it on test devices in beta to understand how it might affect your texting programs. Here's what we've found so far:

  • Unknown Sender Inbox remains OFF by default, and the Spam folder remains ON by default (same as iOS 26).

  • Images from unknown senders now appear as a blurred square with a warning that the sender isn't in the recipient's contacts. Recipients can tap to view the image.

  • In some cases, images and GIFs appear as a file attachment rather than rendering inline — we're escalating this with our vendors to understand if it's intentional.

These observations are based on the current beta and are subject to change before iOS 27's official launch this fall. We'll keep this updated as we learn more.

Some recommended best practices in the meantime:

  • Send to people who want to hear from you: use Switchboard's audience filters and Switchboard Collective to target engaged recipients.

  • If multiple organizations are texting on behalf of the same candidate: vary your copy to avoid recipients receiving near-identical messages from multiple senders.

Switchboard is now integrated with Zapier! Connect Switchboard to thousands of other tools and automate your workflows without writing any code. The integration has access to most endpoints available in Switchboard's public API, including support for multi-org API keys.

⚙ API Updates

Stricter Rate Limits on Export & List Create Endpoints

We've introduced stricter rate limits on export and list create endpoints to ensure platform stability for all users. See the API docs for the full details on current limits.

Broadcast Sending Endpoints: Update, Pause & Resume

You can now manage broadcast sending state directly via the API with three new endpoints:

  • Update — modify a broadcast after creation

  • Pause — pause an in-progress broadcast

  • Resume — resume a paused broadcast

A test send endpoint is also coming soon. Full documentation is available in the API docs.
